Illegal Conservatories...Town Hall Responds

Following our story in edition 170 regarding residents' concern over news that their conservatories In El Mojbn are in fact illegal, we have received the following response from Jane Cronin, on behalf of San Pedro town hall.

"As your readers may know there was a change of local government in San Pedro from the PP party to PSOE party after the elections on 27th May 2007. The PP administration had previously been in power for over 20 years during which period they oversaw a number of building irregularities in the town, which are only now coming to light. In the case of the conservatories in the El
Corral urbanisation of El Mojon, these were in fact never legal according to the original plans and the PP administration was quite incorrect to have allowed them. Their existence has now come to the attention of the local building department and they have been viewed by technical inspectors who confirm their illegality. The new PSOE local government, haying received the technical report, have no choice but to apply the law and take appropriate steps. If they did not do so they themselves would be
guilty of breaking the law.

The town hall recognises that the people of El Moj6n are victims of an unfortunate chain of events started by the previous PP local government, but they do wish to assure residents that no action will be taken without a legal' process involving a series of prior notifications and warnings."
